In many ways like yu an me.

I once knew a turkey called…Turkey
He said “Benji explain to me please,
Who put de turkey in christmas

But itÕs nothing to do wid Christ Mass
Humans get greedy an waste more dan need be
An business men mek loadsa cash’.

An spare dem de cut of de knife,
Join Turkeys United an dey’ll be delighted
An yu will mek new friends ‘FOR LIFE’.

Benjamin Zephaniah

Yup. It’s time for poems. Today I’ll take a look at Talking Turkeys by Benjamin Zephaniah, and analyse it.

  • Title
    • Talking Turkeys can be an informal phrase meaning talking frankly (open, honest, direct). This can signify that the poet’s message is something serious/important.
    • From the title, we also learn that the poet uses personification, where non-humans are given human characteristics, in this case, turkeys that have the ability to talk.
    • A little bit of alliteration, as both Talking and Turkeys start with the same letter, T.
  • Structure
    • The poem is a free verse poem. It has four stanzas, with the first, second, third, and fourth stanza consisting of 16, 7, 8, and 8 lines/verses respectively. So, they are not of equal length. The rhyming also doesn’t really have a pattern.
  • Sounds
    • The rhythm of the poem is achieved through end (ex. Lines 33 & 35) and internal rhymes (ex. Line 7: “It could be yu mate, an not on your plate” and Line 34), repetition, which is used to emphasize the poet’s message (ex. Lines 9 & 13, Lines 17 & 18, and Lines 21 & 22).
  • Language
    • The language used is of course not proper English, instead it is shortened into “slang”, used comedically.
  • Mood
    • The mood is mostly comedic, but there are also some parts that are serious (ex. Lines 22 & 23).
  • Message
    • The poet wants to convey that turkeys should not be eaten and animals also have rights as he supports vegetarianism.
    • It is common tradition in the U.K. to eat turkeys during Christmas, and the poet wants to discourage this.
    • The poet wants to picture the turkeys as having their own minds to discourage people eating them.

So, that’s just a quick analysis. What do you think of the poem? In my opinion, it’s pretty good. It’s really creative and funny, but unfortunately I’m not going to let go of meat…yet?

Isle of Dogs

Isle of Dogs by Wes Anderson is a beautiful work of art. Isle of Dogs is a feature-length stop motion animated film with tremendous visuals, talented voice actors, and a pretty good story that may make you cry.

Isle of Dogs is mainly about a young boy looking for his dog, who because of the evil government in the film, got thrown away living literally in a trash dump. But it’s much more than that. As it is said in the last part of the movie in Atari’s Lantern:

It is also about nature, love, friendship, eternity, and a black owl. I call it, Atari’s Lantern.

Isle of Dogs (Screenwriter: Wes Anderson)

I won’t talk about the plot much due to lazyness and also keeping a lid on spoilers, but all in all it’s a good plot that’s not hard to follow and easy to grasp.

This is actually my first time watching a feature-length stop-motion movie and it was amazing. The movie is incredibly fluid and dynamic, and the attention to detail is mind-blowing. The visuals are full of colour, sometimes even ridiculous, but I definitely enjoyed this animation style. If you want to know how good this movie looks, just take a look at all the work they put in this less-than-five-minute scene:

Wow. Just wow.

Additionally, the voice actors are very impressive. I enjoyed the portrayal of Atari, even if he never said a single English word, but i’m even more impressed at the people who voiced the dogs. With actors like Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Murray, and Liev Schreiber, you really can’t go wrong in the voice actor department. It’s really interesting how the movie doesn’t give subtitles for when the actors are saying something in Japanese, but this is resolved with other more creative ways that help improve the movie and give it a special touch.

Also, bonus for the music. I’m not sure who did the music for this film, but they definitely did a great job. The drums and beats help create great tension and I love how the music is used to set the tone of a scene.

I’m just a bit sad this didn’t win an Oscar for Best Animated Film as it’s definitely terrific, but at least it was nominated. BTW, the winner was Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which I reviewed in last week’s Film Friday.

So, that’s a quick short Film Friday for you. I didn’t have time to complete the Tech Thursday this week, so I’ll just finish it for next week’s. Come on, it’s my blog. Okay, have a good weekend guys and girls!

A Novel Idea #1: Eddie Harold

Edit: Okay, this is now part of “A Novel Idea”! Basically a wordplay between the actual novel (noun) idea and novel (adjective) idea. Simply this section is part of Random Monday, and is the category for all my stories/writings.

A year ago, as part of a school extracurricular activity, I wrote a little story. Here it is, with a few changes after some time reading it a year later. Keep in mind, I listened to Ed Sheeran frequently at the time (still do, actually) so obviously there were some points I definitely took from some of his lyrics, though it’s more of as an inspiration/tribute and is no way a song, so yeah, here we go.

Castle on the Hill

Eddie broke his leg twice in his messy childhood.

The first was when he fell out of his bed at three in the morning. He was five. Yup. Mama Harold woke first, and in the next 30 seconds screamed, cried, and woke Papa Harold, who drove Eddie to the hospital. Apparently, a five-year-old with a broken leg can fill over 10 buckets full of tears in an hour.

Sadly, the nurses and the doctors were all asleep. This wasn’t a big hospital, more of a large clinic. Four hours and forty buckets later, he was finally treated.

It was his left leg, so it was fine.

The second time, Eddie was eight. And you don’t want to know how many buckets an eight-year-old can fill with tears.

This time, it was much more awful and painful. His brother and his friends were starting to be naughty again.

They were shouting about playing a game on a something called a video game and they seemed to be mad about something. At the time Eddie was playing with some Lego bricks to build a car with. Then, Brother Harold came and shouted at Eddie how stupid and childish playing with Lego is. Well, it seemed to Eddie, that if you were eight, there was nothing wrong to play with toys.

But Brother Harold would not listen. He stomped away and stepped on a Lego brick. Suddenly he screamed out loud and fell down, and when he did he hit his head on a pile of Lego which made Brother Harold screech with the highest pitch possible.

Brother Harold’s friends burst into laughter. Eddie knew this was trouble, and started to tip toe towards the door. Brother Harold screamed at his friends to chase Eddie as he was recovering from the fall. Eddie tried his best to run, but his left leg was slowing him down as he jumped out of the door.

The Harold home was in the suburbs and faced a narrow road, and across was a wide grassy field and half a mile away, the ruins of a still majestic Middle Ages castle surrounded by trees. Eddie was always scared of it, but this time he knew he needed to confront his fear.

He headed towards that direction, stealing a brief glimpse of Brother Harold and company catching up.

Eddie ran past the rock path, the gates and the road. The grassy field was as tall as his knees, but Eddie persevered.

“Stop!” Eddie could hear his brother shout at him. This made him run faster. And faster. And faster, until Eddie simply could not slow down.

He ran past the moss covered rocks, the oak tree five times taller and bigger than him and saw the splintered wood remains of what was once a massive door. Eddie entered a massive hall, and proceeded to find the stairs, which he did and immediately raced and jumped on each steps. Under him, he could hear the footsteps of Brother Harold and company coming up the twisting staircase. Unfortunately, the steps leading to the third floor had crumbled, so for now he was stuck here.

The room Eddie entered was what might have been a sizeable library a few lifetimes ago, but now it was rotting wood and dust.

There was no other exit beyond the staircase, other than a window overlooking the oak tree outside.

Eddie ran for it as Brother Harold arrived. “There he is!”

Eddie didn’t even notice. He took a deep breath and jumped. Definitely don’t do this at home if you don’t want to be stuck in the hospital for weeks, possibly never walk again, or even die.

He felt his body in mid air, and then he was caught between the branches. His right leg was particularly caught to a nest of leaves. He shook it, and fell to the ground.

Everything in his body hurt, especially his left leg. He knew the feeling from three years ago. It was broken.

Eddie was lucky enough to survive from that kind of fall, and the pain was overwhelming. He felt his body aching and went unconscious.

He woke in the hospital, his leg in a cast. Papa Harold was beside him and he told Eddie that a mailman had seen Brother Harold and company try to bury Eddie’s unconscious body in the yard. Papa Harold was called and he had driven Eddie to the hospital. Again.

In the end, Eddie didn’t know what to say. Jumping out of a window wasn’t the best idea in the world, but when he had laid on the sweet grass, it was all peaceful, there was a part of him that wanted to stay that way. Forever serene and joyous.

But he knew life must go on, and so it did.

Our Destiny Lies Beyond Us

One night, when Eddie was eight, the Harold family was camping at a nearby mountain range. Papa Harold had made a nice warm campfire for them, and the sleeping bags had been sprawled on the soft ground.

Eddie was the first to get in his sleeping bag. Papa, Mama, and Brother Harold were talking about Brother Harold’s schoolwork. Eddie’s brother was now at middle school. Well, that’s life. You do new, harder things, as always.

Eddie wasn’t totally opposed to that, but he felt that the destiny of life was beyond himself.

Beyond his family. Beyond the Earth maybe. He laid there, staring at the sky. For the first time it seemed to him, the night sky wasn’t empty except for just the moon. There were stars shining bright at him.

At that moment, right there in his sleeping bed, Eddie felt it. It might be his destiny, it might be his grandchildren’s children’s. He was sure all will be revealed in time. But for now his destiny wasn’t his to know. Life was given, and during that life, many things could happen. People change day by day, months by months, years by years, centuries by centuries, millennium after millennium. But one thing he knew.

His destiny, every human being’s destiny was beyond them. And one day they would find it. Destiny carves our lives and our lives carves our destinies. Life will always be there. Because it is destiny.

And so that was what that destiny meant. What you make it to be. To do better, to surpass new and harder challenges, as always.

Knowing that fact Eddie slept soundly, under the brilliant shining stars, and the music of life, of the destiny beyond him.

What Do I Know?

Love could change the world in a moment.

That was what Mama Harold always said. When Eddie asked Papa Harold, he waved off a confused ten-year-old Eddie with, “Son, don’t you get involved in politics, your mama, or other people’s quotes. Eddie had always wondered what that meant. He tried, but could not understand it. Not now, really. The next day, at the breakfast table he asked papa. Papa Harold smiled with a caring face as though Eddie was a cute little baby all over again.

“You know, We are all made up of love and hate, but both of them are balanced on a razor blade.” he said slowly.

There was a long pause between them, which was partially broken by Eddie shifting on his seat and glancing at the now unoccupied seats of Brother Harold and Mama Harold. They both had finished their breakfasts. Now he sat here with papa who was smiling at him.

“It’s alright. What do you know?” Papa smirked at Eddie and rose from his seat. In another second, he was out the door.

Eddie thought about it. What did he know? He stared at his half eaten Peanut Butter and Jam sandwich on the plate. He kept thinking about it after that, until he laid in his bed. On his bed, Eddie imagined himself beside his grandchildren one day with a song he wrote himself while people elsewhere were talking about exponential growth.

He slept after that, enjoying the warmth of his thick blanket. He didn’t dream. He never did. Eddie was all for people following their dreams, but he knew that life wasn’t just fitting into you jeans.

It was love, understanding, and positivity.

But again, what did he know?

Okay, so that’s all. I hope you enjoyed reading some of my stories and found them interesting. I might make more of these in the future if anyone out there likes them.

Also, I’ll be making a new category soon, and it’ll be about books. I think I’ll settle with the name “Page Turners”, but what do you guys think? Comment below if you have a better name suggestion. And as always, have a great day!

The Concorde – Why Did it Fail?

Imagine a plane that can fly more than twice the speed of sound, travel across the Atlantic Ocean in only three and a half hours, and at the same time be a symbol of wealth and luxury. That is the Concorde.

From 1976 until 2003, the world had a way to cut travel times in half. Today if you want to travel from London to New York, it’ll take about 7 hours. What happened? What’s the Concorde?

The Concorde was a supersonic passenger aircraft jointly designed and built by the British and French. It had a top speed of more than twice the speed of sound (Mach 2.04) or 2,180 km/h. The program cost £1.3 billion ($3.5 billion), which is $20 billion today with 20 aircrafts built, including 6 non-commercial aircrafts. The Concorde mostly flew transatlantic flights, crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Why? This was because sonic booms caused when traveling supersonic would disturb people on the ground.

The “slender delta” platform and “droop-nose” in action.

The Concorde had a very iconic design. Due to its wing being a “slender delta” platform, the Concorde has a very high angle of attack during take-off and landing. This led to the iconic “droop-nose”, where they could lower the nose of the plane so the pilot could see out the cockpit.

So, many ask the question: What happened? Well there were many reasons, which we’re going to go through today.

First, there were costs. Flying supersonic is not cheap. The Concorde uses enormous amounts of fuel. During the early 70s, an oil crisis hit the world and oil prices skyrocketed. It was simply too expensive for most airlines to operate.

Look at how narrow the cabin is. The Concorde could only seat 120 passengers. Source: Wikipedia.

Second, the Concorde only had a capacity of 120 passengers, while planes like the Boeing 747 and Airbus A380 can seat over 400 passengers, even up to more than 800 passengers. Because of this limited capacity and the aforementioned development and oil costs, ticket prices could vary up to more than $10,000 for a return trip. That’s definitely not cheap, leading to the Concorde being a symbol of wealth and luxury.

Third, the Concorde had limited range. Although it could carry enough fuel to travel across the Atlantic, the Concorde could not travel farther distances like across the Pacific Ocean without refuelling.

Look at that sonic BOOM!

Fourth, as previously mentioned, the Concorde could only travel across the ocean because supersonic flights create extremely loud shockwaves when reaching and passing the speed of sound. This was the main obstacle for America’s development for a Boeing supersonic project. During tests conducted in Oklahoma City, citizens reported major damage to windows and noise disturbances. Therefore, the Concorde had to slow down and fly subsonic over land, undercutting the plane’s supersonic concept.

Because of this, less passengers found the Concorde useful enough to pay the hefty price tag. The Concorde had tough competition in the jumbo jet Boeing 747 that consumed much less fuel, had more seats, could fly much longer routes, and less expensive overall.

Air France Flight 4590

Finally, there was the tragedy of Air France Flight 4590. On July 25th, 2000, after only two minutes after takeoff from Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris en route to New York’s J.F.K. International Airport, the aircraft ran over debris that caused a blown tyre and a fuel tank puncture, causing the aircraft to crash into a nearby hotel. A total of 113 died that day, 109 aboard and 4 on the ground. This event quite severely damaged the Concorde’s reputation.

Eventually, the Concorde was leaking money and became a symbol of inefficiency. Newer planes were much cheaper to run and were more efficient. Fixing and building new Concordes would be wildly unprofitable. It seemed that the best way was to end it, let the Concorde land for good.

On April 10th, 2003, Air France and British Airways announced that the Concorde would be retired later in the year due to the Flight 4590 crash and the drop in the aviation market after 9/11. Air France had its last Concorde flight on June 27th, 2003 and British Airways retired its Concorde fleet on October 24th, 2003.

Many Concordes are now displayed in museums around the world. NASA has expressed plans for a quiet supersonic plane that may fly silently by 2022.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Film Friday will focus on movies and maybe sometimes TV shows (despite the title) every Friday.

Today I’ll take a look at Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Yes, I know, this movie came out for some time already, but I just recently watched it, so here we go.

I’ll list down some thoughts I had about the movie,

First of all, its story has a great premise. It’s great seeing all these characters from different worlds, dimensions, comics and them teaming up. Every one of these characters have different personalities, special characteristics, and great design. It’s really cool seeing different iterations of Spider-Man showcasing each of their special traits and I also really liked how the movie introduced them with that “I’m Spider-Man” comic sequence.

Look at these creative comic-style thoughts! They’re just so… Spider-Man!

Second, I loved the great design and l0ok of this movie. There are several articles about this already, I’ll just sum it all up and give my thoughts. So, they obviously went with a very unique comic style, if you pause a frame of the movie and zoom in, you can see these little dots like the ones in a comic book. Also, the movie is amazingly bright and colourful. They have such a unique look, and to get better movement, they also took the 2D animation style of 12 frames per second instead of the usual 24 frames per second.

The new Doc Ock, Liv, definitely looks great!

For the individual characters, Miles looks great. I also love how the spray painting scenes look so creative and realistic with that comic look. Peter and Gwen look awesome, Spider-Man’s moves really look comic-y, maybe a little stop motion in there. Peni is also really cool, she looks straight out of an anime and yet fitts in pretty well with the others. Spider-Ham looks okay, definitely on a further side of cartoon, and Spider-Noir gives a very interesting take at the character. Other characters like Kingpin, Liv, and the Prowler all have a really interesting design style too.

Spider-Sense effects!

The possibilities don’t end at the character design, I also noticed while in their spider-suits, the characters can still show their emotions by movements in their eyes, which looked really organic and cool. There were also the comic effects to show the spider-sense, that was also pretty cool.

Next is the voice acting. I think they did a tremendous job for the casting, everyone was great, I’ll just mention Shameik Moore as Miles, Jake Johnson as Peter, and Hailee Steinfield as Gwen. Liev Schreiber was also terrific as Kingpin, albeit he had almost zero lines.

So, that’s all! A few weeks ago, they received the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film, which is great and well-deserved. Thanks to the director, producers, cast and crew for an amazing and creative movie. Hats off, guys! See you guys tomorrow for Weekend Lessons!

Tesla Model Y/New iPads and AirPods/Google Stadia

Well, hello there! Welcome back to my blog. Yeah, I didn’t know what to write for my Random Monday this week so I basically just totally skipped it. I mean, it’s my blog. Deal with it.

So now it’s Thursday, so let’s talk about tech. During this past week, multiple companies announced multiple products, starting from Tesla’s new SUV, the Model Y, Apple’s new 2019 iPad Air and iPad Mini, as well as slight refreshes for AirPods and the iMac, and Google’s new gaming service-thing, Stadia.

Here’s the Tesla event in 3 minutes, with Elon as awkward as a 7th grader doing a presentation lol!

First, let’s talk about the Model Y. I’m a Tesla fan and of course Elon Musk (I wrote an assignment about him at school lol). The Model Y definitely does not disappoint.

It’s Tesla’s second car that appeals to a mass audience (the first was the Model 3) and this time it’s an SUV. Of course, this being Tesla, it’s fast, has a great design and almost absurdly simple. And of course the Y completes Tesla’s lineup: Models S, 3, X, Y (and the Tesla Semi + Roadster, but I won’t include that because well…).

The beautiful Model Y, with a super nice panorama glass roof.

The Model Y seats 7 (which is amazing, the same as my family car), has a 280 mile range, top speed of 150 mph (241 km/h), and just about everything you might want in and don’t forget AutoPilot. It’s just great. I’ll leave it at that.

Next, let’s go ahead and jump to Apple’s new releases this week, with the new, way more powerful iPad Air and iPad Mini, a slight iMac refresh and AirPods 2. Apparently these releases weren’t that important to warrant an actual Apple event, so they were just released through a website refresh, which you can see at Apple.com!

About the iPads, they’re equipped with the most recent and powerful processor, Apple’s own ultra-fast A12 Bionic, the same that goes inside the current generation iPhones. As a person that owns the first generation iPad Mini, it has a special place in my heart. I’m really amazed at how they can pack such power into such a compact device. They also support the Apple Pencil, though that thing is way expensive and it’s the 1st generation, which has the awkward lightning port “sticking-out” charging method, unlike the new iPad Pro, which supports the second generation Apple Pencil with wireless charging on the side. Needless to say, I definitely want one of these iPad.

The trend of crazy pricing continues with “AirPods 2” (however they’re not actually calling it that, just the “new” AirPods), which is just a small refresh, it now supports wireless charging, has more talk-time, and voice-activated Siri.

Also, I just wanted to mention Apple’s upcoming events, the March 25 special event with the tagline “It’s Show time.”, possibly indicating a movie streaming service to rival Netflix perhaps? Also, there’s the upcoming WorldWide Developer Conference, where Apple will announce iOS 13 and macOS 10.15. WWDC19 also brings beautiful wallpapers, which you can find at this iDownloadBlog link.

Here’s a shortened, 13-minute of the Stadia announcement, which I’m going to sum up!
Aaaaannnddddd here’s a 5-minute version, you know, if you’re lazy.

Lastly, I want to talk about what excites me the most. Google Stadia. So Stadia is well, I’m not really sure what to call it. Basically, it’s a way of playing games that doesn’t involve your actual hardware, GPU, that sort of thing, but instead is powered through the cloud, and so you can basically play it on anything, your laptop, mobile phone, TV, all without a console or super fast processors.

Imagine playing on your controller that isn’t connected to a console but to Google’s servers while Google streams your game into your TV/laptop/mobile phone. Imagine watching a game trailer on YouTube then with one click get directed to the game in less than five seconds. With Google’s server power, you’ll get the best graphics and get it all in beautiful 4K HDR.

I really think it’s a great idea and would be really interested to see it in action. However, being not in the U.S., Canada, U.K., and the rest of Europe, I probably won’t be able to for some time. However, I think this would require a pretty good internet connection (designed for fiber-optic gigabit connections, I think) and admittedly here I myself can rarely hit even 1 Mb/s download speeds so well, yeah.

I’m really amazed and excited for what the future holds. I have an idea that would basically implement the Stadia recipe for a possible cloud based video editing platform? Video editing, when it comes to rendering out stuff, requires quite a lot of processor power. Would it be cool to have it instead rendered through the cloud or something? I don’t know, that’s just an idea.

Also, here’s the controller, in my opinion, it’s pretty simple and I like the design. What do you think? Comment your thoughts below!

Controller! Also available in black and mint!

The two unique buttons on the controller are the Google Assistant button and the Capture button. They give an easy, seamless connection direct to YouTube, the first to find help from gameplay videos if you’re stuck on a level or something, the second to capture and upload to YouTube quickly.

Some people think that as shown in the controller with those buttons mentioned above, Google wants to strengthen in its brand and platform that is YouTube.

All in all, I’m really excited for what the future holds, with two of this week’s releases focusing on the future, the Model Y and Stadia, and I think these companies are not only strengthening their brand and products, but also aiming for a better future overall.

Alrighty, that’s all for this week’s Tech Thursday. There was a lot of things and I thought I’d just sum it all up. Hope you’re enjoying my blog and have a good week, guys and girls!

Saving the Blue Whale

(Disclaimer: I’m not a scientist/professor by any means, use the information here at your own risk lol! I just want to share and educate a little!)

Weekend Science! No more TGIF! It’s time to study! Every weekend, I’ll post something that’ll hopefully teach you something. Enjoy!

If we save our wild places, we will ultimately save ourselves.

Steve Irwin

Today’s topic is about how to save the blue whale. The blue whale is currently marked as endangered, though recovering. In today and next week’s edition of Sci-Fri, you will learn about the blue whale, why it is endangered, what we humans can do to help protect them, the advantages and disadvantages of the solution, and also the implications of the solution based on two factors (Economic and Environmental).

The Blue Whale (Balaenoptera Musculus)

What? – About the Blue Whale:

  • Kingdom: Animalia
  • Phylum: Chordata
  • Class: Mammalia
  • Order: Cetacea
  • Family: Balaenopteridae
  • Genus: Balaenoptera
  • Species: B. Musculus

Population: 10,000-25,000 (IUCN Status: Endangered)

Blue Whales (Balaenoptera musculus) are carnivorous marine mammals that live in all the world’s oceans except enclosed seas and the Arctic. Its size varies from 25 to 32 meters and it can weigh up to 200 tons. They are the largest animals known to have ever lived on the Earth. They look true blue underwater, however on the surface they look more of a mottled blue-grey.

Mottled: an irregular arrangement of spots or patches of colour.

Why? – Extinction Reasons:

1962 930 – 2790 (IUCN 1966)
Late 1970s 4000 – 4500 (Burton & Pearson 1987)
1980 About 6500 (Nowak & Paradiso 1983)
1990 2500 – 3000 (Klinowska 1991)
2002 5000 (Pop 2002)

Table 1. Blue whale global population. Source: http://www.animalinfo.org/species/cetacean/balamusc.html

Picture 2. Blue whale ship strike death.jpg
  • Whaling: In the 20th century, whaling fleets killed about 360,000 blue whales in the Antarctic alone. Since then, the population has barely recovered, with the current population numbering between 10,000-25,0000 (Source: WWF).
  • Chemical and Sound Pollution: Pollution disturbs the navigation of blue whales and can even harm them.
  • Ship Strikes: Collisions with ships can cause bruises or even death for blue whales.
  • Overfishing of Krill: Krill is the blue whale’s only diet, and its overfishing can cause difficulty for blue whales when looking for food.
  • Climate Change: Global warming can cause blue whales to migrate during the summer to look for more food in colder climates. Because of this, blue whales may collide with ships or get stranded in coastal areas. Other problems caused by climate change that may damage blue whales include, but are not limited to, freshening of seawater, sea level rise, temperature changes, and ocean acidification.

How? – Solutions (5W+1H):

  • What is the solution?
    • Conserve blue whales by letting them live, grow, and reproduce safely so eventually the population can naturally recover to its original numbers.
  • How to save the blue whales?
    • The main problems that face blue whales right now are pollution, ship strikes, overfishing of krill, and most distressing of all, climate change.
      • Pollution: We have to make sure to properly dispose of harmful chemical substances because run-off may cause water pollution in the ocean. We can do this by taking our waste to a drop-off hazardous waste facility. We can also recycle our waste or take it to a place that will recycle it for you.
      • Climate Change: We can push for governments to make laws to reduce emissions of harmful gasses such as methane. We should also live a more eco-friendly life, one of the ways to do that being riding bicycles or driving electric/hybrid cars to reduce emissions. We can also invest in solar panels and conserve energy at home.
      • Whaling/Ship Strikes: We can support governments and organizations like WWF to create whale sanctuaries where whales can live and reproduce safely without the risk of ships strikes or commercial whaling.
  • Why should we save the blue whales?
    • One of the reasons why blue whales are very special is that it is the largest animal in the world. Therefore, it is important to preserve it for the next generation. Moreover, blue whales can also be a source of information and . discovery.
  • Who can help save the blue whale?
    • We can help fight against climate change and pollution by following the guide above while governments and organizations create whale sanctuaries.
  • When should we help the blue whale?
    • My proposed solution involves the blue whale population growing naturally, so it will take some time for their population to return to its original numbers. Because of this, it is best to start as soon as possible.
  • Where can we help the blue whale?
    • We can start at home, living an eco-friendly life while supporting and donating to organizations. We can also visit whale sanctuaries and take whale-watching tours to increase incentive to conserve blue whales.

Run-off: the draining away of water (or substances carried in it) from the surface of an area of land, a building or structure, etc.

Whale sanctuaries: Loosely used term, can mean areas of the ocean where commercial whaling is banned or a facility that houses or protects whales.

Advantages/Disadvantages:

  • Advantages:
    • Because the blue whale is the largest animal in the world, it is a very special creature and therefore is important to preserve.
    • They may also be useful for research.
    • Building whale sanctuaries can also help other marine animals, not only blue whales.
    • Whale sanctuaries can be made into tourist destinations as an incentive to build them and to finance them.
    • Whale watching tours are also popular and can be used to earn eco-tourism money.
  • Disadvantages:
    • Whale sanctuaries may cost a lot of money to build and maintain.
    • This solution will take a long time, and over the decades a problem may pop out that will slow down the recovery.

Implications:

  • Economic:
    • Although the investment in creating whale sanctuaries in the first place would be costly due to construction, maintenance, and many other factors involved in creating a facility this large. However, these whale sanctuaries can be made to earn eco-tourism money which will hopefully be enough to earn back the investment
  • Environmental:

Tim Apple and Donald America

Tech Thursday. Yeah. It’s Thursday. Let’s talk about tech. This is going to be a really short one, but I don’t care, this is a very last minute Tech Thursday. Actually, it’s not really about technology, but it involves Apple and it blew up on Twitter soooo…yeah.

So apparently President Donald Trump has called Apple CEO Tim Cook “Tim Apple”.

Donald America & Tim Apple

So of course it blew up. This is the internet we’re talking about.

The next day, Tim Cook hilariously changed his twitter handle to Tim [Insert Apple Logo] (he’s changed it back now):

Tim Apple!

Donald America was not happy about the jokes surrounding his slip-up, and now tries to defend himself, saying that he meant “We appreciate it very much, Tim/Apple”, but not many are believing him. Do you? Comment down below about your opinion!

Tim/Apple? I don’t think so lol.

So, that’s all for this week’s Tech Thursday. Sorry for it being so short, like I said it’s very last minute and I’m planning a pretty long post for tomorrow’s first edition of Sci-Fri. Thanks for returning to my blog and good bye!

#1: The Journey Begins and an Introduction

My name is Ryan Ethan Yeo, and in a sentence I am a small young teen with dreams of doing something big. My instagram account is @ryanethan20, and I have a YouTube channel with only one video.

Today’s post’s is Random Monday, which starting from today will hopefully be a weekly category on my blog. It will focus on well, nothing. Random Monday is about my random thoughts, what I feel like writing, and anything in between basically. I hope you’ll enjoy it.

Other planned categories are Tech Thursday, Film Friday, and Weekend Lessons. More are to come. If it wasn’t obvious enough what they mean from the title, just wait until I release them lol. Yes, that was an excuse so you’ll come back to my blog.

Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walto

“The Journey Begins” is the title of the default first post of a WordPress blog. It signifies the start of an adventure to a destination known or unknown. I don’t know what will result from this blog, but I’d like to keep it going as long as I can.

This blog is mainly going to be about my thoughts, sharing a piece of my train of thought, hence why this blog is called “Ryan’s Brain”, which might be a little weird. My intentions for the blog is just sharing my thoughts weekly because well, why not WordPress is free and simple enough for me to manage, so I think it’s a great platform for anyone to use, actually.

Honestly, I can’t think of much to write about today so I think that’s all for this week’s Random Monday, thanks for joining me in this journey and for reading until the end. I hope to see you soon! Bye! And as always, wear your seatbelts! 🤣
